Do Jesus' words in Matthew 10:28 support the idea that people will not suffer eternal torment?

I don't believe in eternal torment, but the second death which is the death of ones soul. Hell is not just the grave, there is a second death and it's called hell. The thing is, how do you define death to a soul?
