What's wrong with my webcam?

For my 12th birthday (I'm 13 now) my parents got me this cute little pink flowery webcam. I never tried it until about a year afterwards, a couple of months ago. I plugged it into my laptop but it didn't do anything. I lost the package it came in which most likely had all the papers and things in it. What do I need to do to get me webcam set up?
